ACADEMICS:
Reading/Writing: Poetry, Poetry, Poetry.

Spelling: Two syllable words and words with the schwa sound.

Vocabulary: Students were tested on poetry terminology this week. Next week will bring new words.

Math:
Saxon Math concepts this week: 2 and 3-digit multiplication and division review, decimals, measurement, and mathematical vocabulary. We will continue to review math concepts in preparation for the AIMS test in April.
Reminder: Please encourage your child to correct math homework errors. Students have the opportunity to earn a ½ point for every error corrected on math homework. This is their responsibility. I do not “nag” them to turn it back in. Students know that by correcting errors, they can significantly impact their grade.

Science: Student display boards are due Feb. 17th. The projects will be judged on Feb. 19th.
If your child’s experiment gets selected to go on to the Southern Arizona Science Fair competition (Sarsef), we will send home notification.

S.S: Settling America and American Indians was our focus this week.

Counseling: Students in our room have been having a lot of conflict, so Mrs. Russell talked with the students about feelings and respect.
She then conducted a lesson on internet safety.

Love of Reading Week: We have had a fun week. Mr. Rubasch and a guest reader from 92.9 The Mountain read some of their favorite books to the class. Students also had a read-in on Tuesday while wearing their favorite pajamas. On Thursday, students shared their favorite poem with other staff members during our Poem in a Pocket event.

NOTES TO PARENTS:
Progress Reports: Please make sure you read, sign, and return your child’s progress report. Thank you!

Student Reports: Please make sure you read & sign your child’s student report each Friday. It is due the following week. If it is not turned in the following week, your child will lose Friday Fun Time.

Can you help? We are in need of Kleenex, markers, colored pencils and colored correcting pens (green, purple, blue, etc).

Many students need to replace their 2 pocket folders. At this point in the year, many are ripped and tattered. Please send in 2-3 of any color. Thank you for your help.

Dress Code: Please review the school dress code policy with your child. Many are wearing sweatshirts that do not conform to dress code. Sweatshirts need to be solid in color (red, white or blue) with not emblems or writing on them. Students must wear a collared shirt underneath.
