MAY NEWS

ACADEMICS
The last book report is due May 16th.

Science-. Students should continue to observe the moon. If students cannot see the moon (it may have set by the time they observe), they are to describe the night in their moon journal and draw what it “should” look like based on class discussions.

Students are still creating their planet Power Point presentations in the computer lab. These are to be completed by May 16th, so they can share them with the entire class.
In order to show these in the classroom, students either need to transfer their presentation onto a flash drive or email it to me at denny@lpatucson.org. If you have a flash drive for your child to use, please have them bring it on a Monday before May 16th.

Social Studies- Students experienced a story about exploring the Americas. We will begin learning about different explorers.

Math: Ratios, division, fractions, decimals, perimeter and area.
A math test was given last Friday.
Students were given the opportunity to correct errors on their test to improve their grade.

Spelling: Words with endings –le, -el, -al, and multi-syllabic words were the focus this week.

Reading: Science content reading has been a big focus this week.
Students are also in the middle of their historical fiction book.

Writing: Students are responding in writing to the literature they are reading.

Counseling: Mrs. Russell continued her lesson on career choices.

NOTES TO PARENTS:
Thank you, Thank you!!!
I appreciate all of the nice notes and special surprises many of the students brought in for teacher appreciation week. It sure made me feel special 

Communication: Don’t forget if there is a week that your child does not show you our class newsletter, you can always read it electronically at http://mrsdenny.blogspot.com

Field Day: The K-6 field day will occur Wednesday, May 18th. We need donations of water and cut up oranges. If you can send in a case of water or some bags of cut up oranges for the students, we would be grateful.
Students are allowed to wear swim suits underneath their clothing, but shirts and shorts must remain on.
Please have your child bring a towel that day as well.

Field Trip: Permission slips went home on Thursday for our bowling field trip on Friday, May 20th.. We will bowl in the morning and enjoy a pizza lunch afterwards. The cost for each student will be $7.50 which includes bus, shoes, and lunch. Many students have returned their permission slip, but not the money. Please send cash, or a check payable to “Lucky Strike Bowling.”

Report Cards: Report cards will be coming home on the last day of school. Please note that if your child has lost or damaged a book or any other classroom supply, that item will need to be paid for BEFORE his/her report card will be released. You will receive an email from me or a note informing you of any lost or damaged books/items. Thank you.

Attendance: Students were excited to see that we had perfect attendance on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week…and almost all students arrived on time on Wednesday!
Thank you for making it a priority to get your child to school on time each day. 
