NOVEMBER NEWS

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Thanksgiving Feast: This year La Paloma students will give thanks and participate in a Thanksgiving Feast on November 23rd. We can only do this with YOUR help.
The 3rd, 5th and 6th grade classes are responsible for providing cooked turkeys for the feast.

*We are asking that each student bring in $1.00 to contribute toward the turkeys.

* I need 2 parents who will volunteer to purchase the turkeys (with the donated money), cook the turkeys, and bring them to school the morning of November 23.

*If you would like to purchase, cook, and donate a turkey (20 lbs), we would be most thankful for your help as well!

Please let me know by Friday, Nov. 19th if you can help in any way.

Holiday Program: We have started practicing for our school holiday concert. The students are excited about our song for the show. We hope to have the concert on Wed., December 15th at Grace Church.
The students will be singing The 12 Days of Christmas…Arizona style. For our performance, we are in need of 12 poster boards (22”x 28”). Please help by donating a poster board so students can create a pictoral graphic to accompany the song.

What We're Learning:
Math: Long division, fractions, systematic listing, and geometry. A unit test will be given this coming week.

Reading: Students continued reading folklore stories.

Writing: Students began brainstorming their own folklore story. They will complete a tall tale, folktale or fable.
Students are also writing descriptive paragraphs about their Sabino Canyon experience.

Science: We continued learning about matter, elements, molecules and atoms. Students created their water, cardon dioxide, propane and oxygen molecules using gum drops. They also designed their own molecule using various geometric shapes modeling their design after the "Bucky Ball" molecule.

We also had a wonderful fieldtrip to Sabino Canyon. The students learned a lot about our desert environment and the critters that make the desert their home. Thank you to those parents who chaperoned our trip!

S.S./Spelling: Students will be introduced to the northeastern states this week. Students should practice the spelling and location of each state every night in preparation for the Friday test.
*Students can practice locating particular states at this fun web site: http://scottbryce.com/
(Once at the site, click on US Geography).

Notes to Parents:
Thank you again to all of the parents who donated goodies for our party on Oct. 29th. The students enjoyed a movie, great snacks and some fun together time.
Thank you also to Maddison, Savannah, Gage, Melanie, and Janelle for making our marble party this past Friday enjoyable with pizza and eegees.

Absent Work: If your child is going to be absent due to illness for a few days, I would be happy to gather the make-up work for him/her. Just call and leave a message with the front desk, and I will have it to the front desk by the end of the day.

Progress Reports: Please remind your child to keep up with their school work. Mid-quarter progress reports will be going home November 15.
